Thank you for your interest in MK1 Construction Services. MK1 is not a ready-mix company, but solely provides a diversified line of controlled, low-strength flowable fill designed to suit your needs for numerous applications, ie backfilling trenches, filling abandoned sewers, storm sewers and manholes, as well as filling voids under existing foundations and streets, to name just a few. Read below for more applications for FlashFill ®.
MK1 uses two methods of producing material, both environmentally friendly. One is a volumetric mixer, which is a conventional, on-site mixer on wheels. The other method is a completely self-contained pneumatic unit equipped with a dust free bag house. The self-contained units are also on-site mixers with the capacity of 75 yards per hour and the ability to replenish materials when required without any interruptions or delays to your project.

FlashFill ®, the newest of our Flowable Fill products, is a quick-setting flowable fill that is currently specified by the City of San Antonio. Once placed, it will allow foot traffic in 20 to 45 minutes, light traffic in 1 to 2 hours, and will enable you to asphalt in 5 to 6 hours, eliminating steel plating and excessive street closure time. FlashFill ® is not a wear-and-tear product, but will permit you to pour up to grade in emergency situations and time to mill and lay asphalt later.
MK1 is a manufacturer and supplier of controlled low-strength
material, also known as flowable fill. Flowable fill is a self-compacting,
cementitious material used primarily as a backfill as an alternative
to compacted fill. Most flowable fill applications require unconfined
compressive strengths of 1200 psi or less, as to allow for future
excavations. Flowable fill is also used to fill abandoned pipes
and structures, utility voids, underground storage tanks, abandoned
mines, and bridge abutments.
Our pricing is very competitive with regular flowable fill, with price adjustments based on the size of the job. If you have questions, please call.
MK1 also provides tunneling and backfill for plumbers. We carry general liability and comply with OSHA.
We at MK1 look forward to the opportunity to assist you with your projects. If you have any questions pleas feel free to call.
Information
on Flash Fill®
FlashFill ® is
a patented, fast-setting flowable
backfill material that is
made from Class C fly ash
and a filler, such as Class
F fly ash, and a proportional
blend of water.

FlashFill ®
is delivered to construction
or maintenance project sites
by volumetric mixer trucks.
FlashFill ® is
mixed on site as a very fluid
material that fills all void
areas that may be inaccessible
to other types of backfill.
FlashFill ® is
a superior alternative to
compacted backfill which takes
time and labor to install.
FlashFill ® requires
no labor for installation
and no equipment for compaction.
Even with its quick setting
characteristics, FlashFill ®
can easily be re excavated
later with hand tools or machinery.
Benefits
- Minimizes repair time,
fast installation.
- No subsidence or settlement.
- Low cost.
- Can be re excavated with
minimal effort.
- Maintenance free.
- Fills voids inaccessible
to compaction equipment.
- No future maintenance
or call backs.
- Flows like water.
- Achieves maximum density.
- Non-toxic
Application
Right of way streets &
sidewalks: When used
as a fill material in street
excavations, FlashFill ®
can be paved over with
concrete or hot mix bituminous
concrete, in less than four
hours following FlashFill ®
placement. Temporary patches
are eliminated.
Inaccessible areas: FlashFill ® can be easily
pumped into voids that are
inaccessible to granular fill
materials. Washouts under
concrete streets or sidewalks
are readily filled, eliminating
costly alternatives. Abandoned
fuel storage tanks are filled
by gravity flow through ground
level openings or by pumping
through a small diameter fill
pipe. Any place where high
performance by the backfill
material is required or where
granular materials are difficult
to place, FlashFill ®
will be the material of choice.
Situations that call for
FlashFill ® include:
- Street excavations, where
FlashFill ® minimizes
subsidence, provides uniform
pavement support and minimizes
the likelihood of potholes
over trench repairs.
- Bridge abutments, where
FlashFill ® permits
a smooth transition from
roadway to bridge deck and
the familiar "thump-thump"
that motorists have come
to expect is prevented.
- Voids left in rubble
filled basement areas during
building demolition.
- Inaccessible areas resulting
from soil settlement or
water washout under streets,
sidewalks or structures.
- Abandoned sewers, tunnels,
and storage tanks.
Safety
FlashFill ®
eliminates the need for barricades and heavy steel plates to cover excavations in roadways. Not only is the process of placing and removing the steel plates dangerous, but they can create hazards for motorists if the plates are not placed correctly, or have been jolted out of place by larger vehicles. Damage to automobiles and personal injury are serious concerns.
Placement
FlashFill ®
uses specially designed volumetric
delivery units for placement.
There is no waste because
the actual amount of material
necessary is proportioned
and mixed at the site; it
is not necessary to agonize
over "how much to order."
With FlashFill ®,
the end user only pays for
the quantity used in the placement.
Cost effectiveness
Studies show FlashFill ®
is dramatically more cost
efficient than granular fill
materials, especially where
labor intensive compacting
methods are necessary to achieve
proper consolidation.
Environmentally sound
FlashFill ®
is made from non-toxic coal
fly ash and is not hazardous
to the environment
